A Chat With: audio production company On The Sly

We were very excited to chat with the team at audio production company On The Sly recently when they invited us to take a look around their new state-of-the-art recording studios in Eastbourne.

On The Sly are audio branding experts for radio, TV, advertising, and podcasts, so frequently work on jingles, branded song intros, trailers, and audio commercials. They have produced some amazing musical soundtracks for a host of live events including the London NYE fireworks show for the last five years, music and sound design at COP28 in the UAE, high-energy music mash-ups for the kinetic dance floors at Coldplay’s current world tour, and produced part of the opening ceremony soundtrack for the 150th FA Cup Final at Wembley.

We caught up with them to learn more.

Keen to discover more for yourself? On The Sly are hosting an open house event tomorrow, Tuesday 26th March, at their new visual-podcast studios in Eastbourne and would love to show you around.

Join the team for an informal evening from 5pm-8pm as they showcase the space, enjoy some refreshments, and delve into the world of podcasting and their creative audio branding company.

Contact fran@onthesly.studio to secure your spot.

Your chance to help shape the future of Tech education in East Sussex

TechNative is leading the development of exciting initiative designed to bridge the gap between East Sussex’s vibrant tech industry and the educational sector, which Chalk Eastbourne is pleased to be supporting.

The upcoming Tech Teacher Encounters Day, to be held on 5th July at Bexhill 6th Form College, aims to bring tech professionals, teachers and careers advisors together to foster a deeper understanding of the myriad career paths within the tech industry and highlight the crucial skills and aptitudes in high demand in the sector.

The aim is to inspire education professionals to bring new approaches to the classroom to better reflect industry practice and to start to unpick the barriers preventing diverse groups from embarking on tech and digital learning pathways.

Can you participate and share your expertise and experience?

TechNative would love to invite you to take part in or co-facilitate one of the workshops focused on:
- Software Development
- User Experience Design
- Product Management
- Data Analytics
- 3D Animation and Special Effects

This is a unique opportunity to network with other professionals, share your insights, and directly impact the curriculum and teaching methods. By participating, you'll play a crucial role in shaping a more diverse and skilled group of young individuals ready to embark on tech-led education and careers in local companies like yours.

By joining forces, we can ensure the next generation of tech professionals locally are equipped with the relevant skills to thrive in the industry. Your involvement will not only help bridge the educational gap but also support the creation of a more diverse talent pipeline, critical for the innovation and growth of our local tech sector.

Interested?

Please get in touch at dan@technativedigital.com, to express your interest or to learn more about how you can be a part in the Tech Teacher Encounters day.

Free pottery workshops at Eastbourne Studio Pottery to culminate in exhibition at Towner

Eastbourne Studio Pottery is welcoming over 60 socially engaged local groups to take part in 35 free, artist-led workshops running until May. Every single artist and maker's work will be represented in the final exhibition - a unique set of plates - held at Towner Eastbourne on 6th and 7th July.

The project, funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the East Sussex Arts Partnership, is running as part of Eastbourne Alive, which celebrates the Turner Prize coming to Eastbourne. With creativity, community, and making connections at its core, the hands-on workshops will give over 400 people the opportunity to make with clay.

Looking for some Easter fun with Elmer?

Need a way to keep the children entertained this Easter? If you've already taken part in Elmer's Art Parade, tracking down all the Elmers around Eastbourne's town centre, then your little ones may be keen to enter The Art House cafe's "Design your own Elmer" competition.

All you need to do is visit the cafe's Facebook page to download a colouring form or pop in to collect one, then return it completed by Sunday 15th April. You'll be in with a chance of winning a £50 voucher for The Art House, or one of two £25 runners up prizes - plus your work might get displayed on their Wall of Fame. A great "rainy day" activity during the Easter school holidays!

Lightning Fibre - business as normal

You may have heard that Lightning Fibre has gone into administration. If you're concerned about your current broadband services, then do not worry - services remain unaffected.

Lightning Fibre Ltd has transferred its broadband business over to LF Holdco, so the Lightning Fibre business continues to trade as normal and operations are not expected to be impacted.

One last thing…

Early bird tickets for October's Eastbourne DigiFest are set to go on sale on Monday 8th April - we'll send you a reminder nearer the time.

If you're interested in sponsoring or exhibiting at the conference, then do check out the relevant links to see how you could get involved. Exhibitor spaces are available at a reduced early bird rate until 1st May - simply reply to this email to book.

Until next time,

Sarah and the Chalk Eastbourne team
