A Chat With: Virtual Film Production Masters at Racquet Studios, Eastbourne

Following their talk at Eastbourne DigiFest 2023, we were intrigued to learn more about the new technologies being used by Racquet Studios, based in the Devonshire Quarter in Eastbourne.

Aside from their mind-blowing virtual film production work, they have been working hard on creating digital twins using photogrammetry and 3D modelling techniques. What does that actually mean?

We caught up with the Racquet Studio directors, Simon Skinner, Josh Lewis, and Rob Ruardy to discover more and share some of this cutting-edge technology with you...

Get involved with Tech Teacher Encounters Day!

We're supporting TechNative Digital and East Sussex County Council to help create a teacher training day on Friday 5th July, aimed at upskilling teachers and careers advisors to better understand the tech industry.

As part of this, we're looking for a number of employers from across the tech sector in East Sussex who may want to get involved in the day in some way - in particular, professionals from the following sectors:

  • Software Development

  • User Experience Design

  • Data Analytics

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Product Management

If you'd like to get involved in the day, support teacher workshops, or help build the programme for the day, please contact Dan from TechNative on dan@technativedigital.com.

New culture, arts, and education hub to open in Eastbourne

A new culture, arts, and education hub on the edge of the South Downs near Eastbourne has just been approved at Black Robin Farm, a former 19th century dairy farm.

Set to include business studios, event space, and a new gallery building, the cultural centre operated by Towner Eastbourne will attract up to 100,000 visitors annually.

Work is expected to begin on this Feilden Fowles-designed sustainable site this year and, according to Eastbourne Borough Council's leader Stephen Holt, the development "will allow the local communities to celebrate Eastbourne's identity, increasing civic pride and raising aspirations".

In addition to providing artistic opportunities, Towner Eastbourne and East Sussex College Group will deliver qualifications and skills training for young adults at the site to support career development in the creative, leisure and tourism sectors, which we fully support. We're excited about this next step in putting Eastbourne on the map for the CDT sector.

One last thing...

Wondering how you can gain more traction to get your innovation and R&D projects off the ground? Whether it's funding, advice, or people power you need, join us at 1pm this Wednesday 28th February to learn more.

We'll be joined by Lorraine Davies, SME Engagement Manager at the University of Brighton, who will share how you can access innovation and skills funding from your local universities, and there'll be a Q&A where you can ask Lorraine about specific projects you may be considering.

Until next month,

Sarah and the Chalk Eastbourne team
