An exciting opportunity to join the team at Light & Sound International (LSi), a world-leading monthly trade publication serving the professional lighting, audio, staging and audio-visual industry.

PLASA Media is looking to fill the role of assistant editor in a team producing both LSi magazine and its popular daily news website – www.lsionline.com

The successful applicant will have a high level of literacy and an excellent eye for detail, a knack for spelling and punctuation and a proven ability to write clear and concise English. They will be presentable, confident and outgoing, good at operating within a small team, and able to cope with the demands of production deadlines.

PLASA is an international trade association representing companies and individuals in the entertainment technology industry, encompassing professional audio, AV, lighting, broadcast, staging, rigging, and related technologies. Supporting its global membership with a wide range of business resources and technical support, PLASA’s commercial activities include trade events - such as PLASA Show and PLASA Focus Leeds – certification schemes, industry-leading publications and business forums.

Role overview:

As assistant editor, you will work closely with the editor, playing a vital role in planning, generating, processing, and developing editorial content for the print magazine and associated online media.

Your responsibilities will include preparing editorial content to the highest standard and ensuring factual accuracy and consistency of style. In the absence of the editor, you will progress magazine production and handle editorial inquiries. The position requires occasional national and international travel.

While the position offers an exciting and varied experience in the ‘live entertainment technology’ industry, it is important to note that the role involves a combination of creative and more routine tasks. The successful candidate will be expected to balance high-quality editorial work with day-to-day tasks essential for the smooth production flow. This includes, but is not limited to, tasks such as uploading the daily online web news, proof-reading and sub-editing, fact-checking and occasional administrative duties.

Beneficial qualifications and skills:

  • Proven high level of English language and grammar.

  • Attention to detail; sub-editing and proof-reading skills.

  • Technical writing ability and news/business journalism experience.

  • Strong, creative copywriting skills.

  • Social media skills – content creation, posting, and monitoring across all major platforms.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent organisational skills and time management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
